Frequently
Asked Questions
| Q |
What
is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT)? |
| A |
A method of
healing chronic wounds through the super-saturation of the blood with
oxygen. |
| Q |
What
is the science behind hyperbarics? |
| A |
In wound healing
terms, hypoxia is an insufficient supply of oxygen that prevents normal
healing processes. HBOT provides the oxygen needed to stimulate and
support wound healing. When a patient is placed in a hyperbaric chamber,
they breathe 100% oxygen at nearly three times normal atmospheric
pressure. This translates into oxygen levels up to 20 times higher
than normal in the bloodstream. These concentrated oxygen levels kill
bacteria, encourage capillary growth, and promote cellular activity. |
| Q |
When
should HBOT be used? |
| A |
It is approved
for 15 indications including:
• Diabetic wounds of the lower extremities
• Osteomyelitis
• Radionecrosis |
| Q |
Does
HBOT have to be associated with a major medical center? |
| A |
Any hospital
can benefit from our services. For a 50-Bed hospital with a 50,000
patient referral base and 100 Skilled Nursing Beds in the area,
statistics indicate that there will be
| 3,000 |

Total
potential patients |
This total
does not include other indications such as osteomyelitis, and failing
skin/muscle flaps. More importantly, HBOT requires a small volume
of patients to secure quality financial returns. |
| Q |
Does
Medicare reimburse for these services? |
| A |
Medicare and
private insurance reimburse for 15 indications. |
| Q |
How
does Wound Care Systems partner with hospitals? |
| A |
• By providing
flexibility of services: from management of existing centers to creation
of new facilities using the latest technologies
• By offering various contract options to facilitate your hospital’s
needs |
